Google Maps expands map coverage to 54 new countries

I missed this last week but Google has released a very large map update. There are now 54 new countries with data including Iraq, Afghanistan, Fiji, Mexico, Peru and Vietnam. Some of the countries have sparse data but at least major roads and cities are listed. Google is also promising to add more detail in the coming months and to add new countries to the list.

It looks like Google is trying very hard to eliminate the old paper based Atlas.
