There are some broadband alternatives that might work in the Penniac area. I am in town but I use Eastern Wireless (http://easternwireless.ca) fixed wireless service which has decent bandwidth and is comparable in price to Aliant or Rogers. They have decent coverage in the Fredericton area and should cover the Penniac area. There is a higher setup cost but in my experience it has been worth it. I believe that Xplorenet (http://www.xplornet.com/) is another service that could fit the bill. I agree about the Fred e-zone, Lisa.

I use it often when I'm at my kid's sporting/activity events while waiting around pools, fields, etc. What is really ironic though is that if you go just barely 5 minutes past Marysville where there are many government buildings to Penniac, you can't get high speed internet. A friend of mine that moved here from the US said how can Fredericton and area be so advanced in some ways and so archaic in others. As far as I can tell, the amount of the city being covered is still relatively small and it has not changed in quite a while. Is the city looking to get 100% coverage? Other cities have been catching up in terms of deploying wireless networks. As for the green initiatives being worked on by the city, while I completely agree with them I think that more innovative and novel approaches need to be taken. Handing out a few compact fluorescent lightbulbs and looking at building energy efficiency is enough. How about a world-class transit system? Perhaps property tax breaks for "green" owners? I remember when I was visited at my company to donate to the WiFi network. Initially, there was no gaurenteee it would actually be connected to the internet. Of course, it does have internet access and I wish it covered even more areas of the city. Fredericton, has also been making large strides in protecting the environment as well but this seems to be more of an afterthought . We have a green parades, and recycle contests with local communities. We are also working to be the first city to meet Kytoto targets.
