I managed to watch a little bit of the NBA draft last night. Seeing as Toronto didn’t have any picks this year, my interest level wasn’t too high. The Raptors did make a last minute trade for #58 pick for a draft pick next year. I didn’t get to watch much NCAA basketball this spring so I can’t comment too much on the other picks. There is more details at the Toronto Star or at NBA.com.
Before the draft, there seemed to be a lot of speculation around blockbuster trades perhaps involving Amare Stoudamire or Kevin Garnett but nothing major materialized. The only “large” trade was Boston trading their first round draft pick and a couple of players to Seattle for Ray Allen. Boston needs more experienced players after their season last year but I’m not sure how good this trade will be for them.
Free agent signing starts on Saturday so we will see if there are any big moves made then. Then we will have to wait until October to see how it all shakes out on the court.
In the meantime, CFL football started regular season play. The Argos lost to BC but it was a pretty good game to watch (from what I saw). It did include a record breaking 129 yard return by Levingston. Hopefully the rest of the season will be just as exciting.
